A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “On arrival we found that the fire had been well suppressed due to the quick actions of the occupiers.

“They had used a fire extinguisher for as long as it was safe to do so, before then closing internal doors and evacuating.”

Crews entered the premises to fully extinguish the fire and ventilate.

The spokesperson added: “We commend the quick thinking of the residents on this occasion, but would remind people to only tackle a fire if they can do so safely.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but at this stage is believed to have been caused by unattended cooking.
